IONAWR 2014
Cronfa Leol yr Eisteddfod yn cyrraedd £200,000

llun

Wrth i ni ddechrau ar flwyddyn fawr i Faldwyn - blwyddyn Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Maldwyn a'r Gororau 2015 - mae Menter Maldwyn yn falch ofnadwy o glywed fod yr Eisteddfod wedi cyhoeddi bod Cronfa Leol y Brifwyl eisoes wedi cyrraedd £200,000, sef 75% o’r targed.

Mae trigolion ar hyd a lled y dalgylch wedi bod wrthi’n ddiwyd ers blwyddyn a rhagor yn casglu arian ar gyfer yr Eisteddfod a gynhelir ym Meifod o 1-8 Awst y flwyddyn nesaf. Gydag un dyddiad cau eisoes wedi pasio, ac eraill yn prysur agosáu, mae’r trefniadau a’r paratoadau lleol a chenedlaethol yn mynd yn arbennig o dda.

Meddai Elen Elis, Trefnydd yr Eisteddfod, “Mae’n braf iawn gallu cyhoeddi ein bod ni wedi cyrraedd carreg filltir mor bwysig i’r Gronfa Leol cyn y Nadolig. Gwn bod amryw o’r gwirfoddolwyr lleol wedi gobeithio y byddai modd cyrraedd £200,000 cyn diwedd y flwyddyn, a rhaid eu llongyfarch nhw ar eu gwaith a’u hymroddiad er mwyn gwneud hynny.

"Mae codi arian sylweddol yn dipyn o her, yn enwedig mewn ardal wledig ac yn ystod cyfnod economaidd anodd. Ond mae pobl Maldwyn a’r Gororau wedi ymateb yn arbennig i’r sialens ac wedi bod wrthi’n trefnu gweithgareddau a digwyddiadau o bob math – a’r cyfan yn enw’r Eisteddfod.

“Rhaid talu teyrnged i’r gwirfoddolwyr lleol, dan arweiniad byrlymus Beryl Vaughan. Mae’u hegni a’u brwdfrydedd yn heintus, ac wedi cydio yn nychymyg pentrefi ac ardaloedd ar hyd a lled y dalgylch. Mae trigolion yr ardal wedi croesawu’r Eisteddfod yn gynnes iawn, ac rwy’n gobeithio y bydd Cymru gyfan yn ymateb i’r croeso hwn ym mis Awst ac yn tyrru i Meifod ar gyfer wythnos i’w chofio.

“Wrth gwrs, mae wyth mis i fynd, a bydd y gwaith codi arian yn parhau dros y misoedd nesaf. Rydym yn gwybod bod y pwyllgor lleol yn benderfynol o gyrraedd y targed ariannol, a rydym yn galw ar i bobl o bob rhan o Maldwyn a’r Gororau – a’r rheini y tu allan o’r dalgylch swyddogol – i gefnogi’r gwaith ac i sicrhau y bydd Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Maldwyn a’r Gororau, 2015 yn un o’r goreuon eto.”

Cynhelir y Brifwyl ym Meifod o 1-8 Awst. Am ragor o wybodaeth ewch i www.eisteddfod.org.uk.

Join Beryl on her coastal path adventure!

With less than a year to go before the Montgomeryshire and the Marches National Eisteddfod, and as everyone recovers from a successful festival in Carmarthenshire last week, it’s good to know that we won’t have long to wait before getting another chance to support the Eisteddfod. Following the success of the first few stages of her walk along the Coastal Path at the beginning of summer, Beryl Vaughan, Chair of the 2015 Executive Committee, is taking to the road again over the next few days, travelling through north west Wales.

"This is going to be a spectacular tour," said Beryl, as she prepared for the next few stages. "We have been very lucky with the weather so far and I really hope our luck continues as we walk through Llyn and along the coast of Gwynedd.

And you're invited to join her! Here are the details of the next stages of the walk:

18 August – Harlech to Porthmadog
19 August – Porthmadog to Pwllheli
20 August – Pwllheli to Pentowyn
21 Augut – Pentowyn to Aberdaron
22 August – Aberdaron to Tudweiliog
23 August – Tudweiliog to Trefor
24 August – Trefor to Caernarfon

Then, after a break of a few days, Beryl will continue walking, working her way southwards, starting from Goodwick, and here are the details:
1 September – Goodwick to Abercastle
2 September – Abercastle to St Justinians
3 September – St Justinians to Nigwl.

Anyone wishing to join the walk can turn up on the morning.  The walk starts at 10.00 every day at the start of the Coastal Path in every town or village.  You can walk for the whole day or just for part of the day.  We appreciate a donation of £10 or more for adults and £5 for children.

You can also contribute through the Just Giving website – www.justgiviing.com/taithgerddedberylvaughan. All money raised will go towards the Montgomeryshire and the Marches Local Fund.

The Eisteddfod is held from 1-8 August next year,  For more information go to www.eisteddfod.org.uk.

14 MAY

SECOND LEG OF EISTEDDFOD WALK TO START SOON

Following the success of the first leg of her journey on the Welsh Coastal Path, Beryl Vaughan, Chair of the Montgomeryshire and the Marches National Eisteddfod committee, will begin the second part of her walk in just over two weeks’ time.

Beryl said, "First, thanks to everyone who participated in the first leg recently.  We had a very enjoyable three days of walking, and it was great to see so many people joining us. Thanks also to everyone who supported the walk. Every penny of the money collected will go towards creating a memorable Eisteddfod in Meifod next year.  But there’s plenty of walking left to do before we reach next year, and I hope lots of people will support the second part of the journey which starts on Sunday 1 June.

One of the aims of the walk is to show the warm welcome for the Eisteddfod and visitors to the festival in Montgomeryshire and the Marches, and we hope to encourage many to join us for a special week in August 2015, as we walk through different parts of Wales.

Once this leg of the walk is over, there’ll be a month to go before the Proclamation Festival in Newtown on Saturday 5 July.  It’s hard to believe that we have reached this stage in the preparations already, and this is the first ‘official’ event to show that the Eisteddfod is on its way – and there’s another leg of the walk to come before then!"

1-3 June route
1st of June, 10am: Lifeboat Hut in Borth to Llanrhystud
2nd of June, 10am: Llanrhystud to Newquay
3rd of June: Newquay to Aberporth

We are very proud of Beryl here at Menter Maldwyn. We would love it if you could show your support either by joining her on the walk, or donating online on www.justgiving.com/taithgerddedberylvaughan or by calling the Eisteddfod office on 0845 4090 400.

APRIL 2014

Taking the Eisteddfod across Wales

With just over two months to go before the Proclamation Festival for the Montgomeryshire and the Marches National Eisteddfod, the Chair of the local Executive Committee will be donning her walking boots for a sponsored walk along Wales’ coastal path to raise money and awareness for next year’s event.

Beryl Vaughan will set off from Machynlleth on 5 May, exactly two months before the Proclamation, leaving Ysgol Bro Dyfi at 10.00 and walking to Tywyn. The following day sees Beryl leave Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn at 10.00 and she’ll walk to Barmouth, and then, on 7 May, Beryl will leave the Leisure Centre in Barmouth at 10.00 and make her way to Harlech.

Over the next few months, Beryl will be calling on walkers of all ages to join her on her trek for a day at a time. Her aim is to show the people of Wales that the Montgomeryshire and the Marches area is reaching out across Wales to encourage people from all over the country to come to the Eisteddfod from 1-8 August next year.

While preparing for the first leg of her walk, Beryl said “I very much hope we will have the support of local people in different areas as we walk the coastal path to raise funds for next year’s event. This is our chance to take the Eisteddfod along the Welsh coast, and show everyone that a warm welcome awaits them in Montgomeryshire next year.

“I hope schools and local people will join with us on the walk, which will take place in stages over the coming months as the Eisteddfod approaches, so there will be ample opportunity for people in different parts of the country to join. If you’d like to take part at all, please contact the Eisteddfod office on 0845 4090 400 for more information.

“There’s very little coastline in Montgomeryshire, but we will start the first two parts of the walk in the Machynlleth area, travelling towards north Wales in May and then down to south Wales in June. I hope we’ll have lots of fun, and I look forward to welcoming a large number of fellow walkers not only on the coastal walk but over to Montgomeryshire and the Marches next year for an Eisteddfod to remember.”

Following 5-7 May, the walk will take place on 1-3 June. Further details will be announced nearer the time, and the Eisteddfod will also liaise with schools along the route to invite them to join in for a day. You can also make a contribution to Beryl’s fund by contacting the Eisteddfod office.

JULY 2012
A new look for Menter Maldwyn

Newtown's High Street was buzzing on Saturday 7th of July, as Menter Iaith Maldwyn - Montgomeryshire's Welsh Language iniciative - celebrated the official opening of their new office.

Having moved from the Old College, also in Newtown, where the venture has been based for the past 10 years, Menter Iaith Maldwyn is now in a visible and accessible location that will make the Welsh language more welcoming. The new office will also act as a Welsh Language Centre for the area, offering a wide range of social sessions for people of all ages.

The Centre was opened officially by Glyn Davies MP, a fine example of a successful Welsh learner from Montgomeryshire, and a word of thanks was given by Menter Iaith Maldwyn's chair, Hywel Lovgreen.

Throughout the day, there was a constant flow of interest, with enough activities organised to keep everyone happy.
Entertainment was had by Welsh singer/songwriter, Geraint Lovgreen, Drum workshops with Gwyn 'Mafia' Jones, and Welsh taster sessions with Welsh for Adults.

The Children enjoyed an array of face painting, balloon blowing, and a story sessions, as well as live singing and dancing performances from Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd, Rhiwbechan and Caereinion High school pupils.

There was also plenty of Welsh delicacies, such as Bara Brith, for those with a sweet tooth, as well as Siop Cwlwm From Oswestry selling Welsh merchandise, books and greeting cards.

Events and sessions have been organised in the new language centre for the near future and Menter Maldwyn would encourage and welcome other Montgomeryshire based organisations and societies to utilies the facility to host their own Welsh/bilngual events.
